Jo B. Paoletti is Associate Professor of American Studies at the University of Maryland in College Park, where she teaches courses related to everyday American life, including popular culture, fashion and consumerism, and material culture. She earned a BS in clothing design from Syracuse University, an MS in textiles from the University of Rhode Island, and a PhD in textiles from the University of Maryland. Paoletti's training is in the history of clothing and fashion, and she has published many articles on gender differences in American children's clothing. Her latest effort is Pink and Blue: Telling the Boys from the Girls in America, published by Indiana University Press in 2012. Next up: a book about unisex fashion (1965-1985) and then one on old lady clothes, mother-of-the-bride dresses, cougars and other age-appropriate nonsense. Of course it will be about gender, too.
